Silk

The name [from the Russian “shelkovka,” derived from the noun “shelk”—silk] for the Comintern’s commonly used travel credential. This tiny piece of thin silk bore a typed text which certified that its bearer was a member in good standing of a certain national Communist party – and indicated the mission and/or destination of that person’s trip.
